Tent Ridge Sunrise Hiking Elopement

Amanda and Colin were my 3rd in a row clients to get sunrise elopement photos on Tent Ridge in Kananaskis. They were also the fastest hikers I’ve ever photographed!! I was struggling to keep up with them on the hike up in the dark. But it was great. We made it up in record time and had lots of time to get ready and watch the sunrise.

Tent Ridge is an excellent choice for a sunrise hiking elopement because of the ridge line that you can walk along for a long ways. In one direction, Spray Lakes stretches out behind you. In the other direction, there are layers and layers of huge peaks that make for an insanely epic backdrop. Plus, there is tons of room to move around, walk and run along the ridge. It’s a perfect location to watch the sunrise, and is not a super hard hike for the reward you get.

I worked with 2 other amazing vendors for this elopement: the classic, one and only hiking officiant, Married by Cole, and the great videographer, Ringtail Films! Definitely check out both of them for your sunrise hiking elopement in Alberta.

Here are a couple of tips for doing your sunrise hiking elopement on Tent Ridge. Plan it for a weekday, especially in summer or fall. It is an extremely popular hike on weekends, even at sunrise, so to avoid the crowds, do it mid week. You can’t do this hike in the spring as the snow is far too deep. So keep that in mind when you’re thinking of a date. It can be chilly up there, even in July and August, so dress appropriately and bring layers and handwarmers for your elopement.

Let’s see how many elopements I can photograph on Tent Ridge in 2026!!
