Have you ever seen photos of people eloping in Iceland and Norway and all of the epic places with super high, misty waterfalls and moody backdrops? Well, I’m here to tell you that you actually don’t have to go across the ocean to elope in an epic moody place like that. There are a few waterfalls around Alberta and BC that can give you the same effect! That being said, I’d happily come to Iceland or Norway to photograph your elopement ;). Here is a perfect waterfall for your elopement in Alberta.

Bow Glacier Falls

This waterfall is stunning. It’s really tall and narrow, and you can actually walk quite close to it, and be up on the rocks in the spray. It is surrounded by mountains, and a nice open valley, with a river, shrubs and rocks everywhere. It literally looks and feels like you’re in Iceland. But it’s in Alberta! As you might guess, you park at Bow Lake along the Icefields parkway and then hike about 4km one way into the waterfall. The hike is moderate at best, with a trail that is mostly flat. There are a few hills to hike over, but even if you’re out of shape, they are no problem.

You can see the waterfall in the distance as soon as you crest the hill. It’s very easy to approach. And it’s so beautiful for elopement photos. There is lots of room to have a little ceremony, if you choose as well! It’s a great hike that’s not too far from Banff or Lake Louise. As usual, I recommend doing it for sunrise or sunset to avoid the crowds and get the best light. You can also stop at Bow Lake before or after for more photos!
