Whenever anyone inquires with me about photographing their elopement in the mountains, I literally jump up and down with excitement! It was no different with Dave and Melissa, when they inquired about their little Jasper elopement at Pyramid Lake. We hopped on a zoom call, as I do with all new inquiries, and they were the sweetest ever. They booked in a couple days later, and made it official on May 8 at the beautiful setting of Pyramid Lake.
Have you spent time in Banff and Jasper?
I’ve spent more time in Banff, but Jasper is beautiful in it’s own way. This is how I would describe it. When you’re in Canmore/Banff area, if feels like you are totally enclosed by mountains really close on either side. But in Jasper, while you’re still surrounded by mountains, it feels more open, and the mountains make the most stunning backdrop for photos.
Pyramid lake has a little island….
….with a permanent wedding/elopement ceremony site. They have permanent wooden benches looking out over the lake with a view of the mountains behind the couple. It’s a great spot to get married if you’re just planning a small wedding. And there are plenty of photo opportunities right in that area as well. The bridge out to the island makes a perfect “aisle” for approaching the ceremony location!
Dave and Melissa were the sweetest couple, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen two people more in love! It was the most precious thing, and as always, I LOVED meeting and working with them. They kept it super simple. Melissa made her own bouquet and bought her dress at a consignment store. (I even fell over once when I was walking backwards to get “the shot”… haha. We won’t talk about that!).
