If you’re planning a winter elopement in the Canadian Rockies, a helicopter elopement at Mt Charles Stewart is definitely a great option! Ben and Lys decided to get married on March 27 in Canmore for a very specific reason. The house where they were both living when they met was in Canmore, with number 327 (we even got a photo there, you’ll see it soon!). They have a lot of memories in Canmore, and wanted to make sure they also had lots of photos with the Three Sisters mountains too.
I met up with them at the Malcolm Hotel in Canmore, where they did a first look (with the Three Sisters in the background of course) and we took a few photos in the area. Then we headed over to the Alpine Helicopter base, where we met up with Martha from Martha’s Heli Hikes and Matt, the videographer. I always love the excitement of my couples when they are about to go in a helicopter! It’s such a cool way to elope, and even the flight itself is spectacular. After we did the safety briefing, we headed out to the helicopter and flew over to Mt Charles Stewart. The pilot dropped us off and left us there to do our thing!
We thought we might get away without snowshoes, but alas, the snow was very deep and we immediately realized we needed them. But they added such a cool aspect to these adventure elopement photos and made the whole experience much easier. We snowshoed over to an edge for the ceremony, and Ben and Lys exchanged rings and I do’s surrounded by the beautiful snow covered peaks. After the ceremony, we hiked/snowshoed up to a higher viewpoint and took some more photos while we waited for the helicopter to return and pick us up.
It couldn’t have been a more perfect day, really. There was no wind, it wasn’t freezing, and the clouds made the light absolutely perfect. If you’re thinking about eloping in the winter time, a helicopter elopement with Alpine Helicopters and Martha’s Heli Hikes is a great way to go about it!
