Kananaskis Hiking Elopement

This shoot was a dream come true for me. Whenever I plan styled shoots, I always try to find vendors who will represent my style and vision well. I knew this Kananaskis hiking elopement styled shoot was going to be GOLD, and was it ever. I was going for a super moody, flowy, adventurous mountain elopement. Ok, story time.

The 2 weeks leading up to the date of the shoot, I was watching the weather like a hawk. It kept saying rain. It said a LOT of rain. And then the next day, it said only a little bit of rain. And then a few days later, a lot of rain. So basically, I didn’t know what to believe. But needless to say, it caused a bit of stress for me, because I didn’t want the whole shoot to be ruined because of pouring rain. Plus, the weather in the mountains is always so unpredictable, you never know what you’re going to get.

I stayed at the HI Kananaskis Wilderness Hostel the night before. Thankfully I was the only one there, so when I left at 4am, I didn’t wake anyone up! The plan was to start hiking up East End of Rundle, just outside Canmore, at about 5:45am. When I arrived at the parking lot to wait for the others to get there, there was hardly a cloud in the sky to the east, but some really dark clouds to the west. It was the most beautiful, calm, perfect morning. I couldn’t believe it. The other photographers and the couple arrived, we headed to the trail head, and started our ascent!

As we neared the false summit, a huge rush of white clouds sailed through the valley below us.

We still had about 15 minutes more until we reached the false summit, so I really hoped the clouds would stay in the valley. It was unbelievable, so much so, that I can’t describe the beauty in words. Ha Ling peak rose above so majestically, and our mouths dropped open as we looked on in awe. As soon as we made it to the top, everyone said it was SO worth the effort of the hike, and we hadn’t even started shooting yet!

I have no more words, so just enjoy these stunning images from this Kananaskis Hiking Elopement styled shoot.

Thanks to all of these amazing vendors who made this shoot come together so beautifully! Please check them out if you are planning to elope in the mountains in Alberta.
